 Salem High School Class of 1959 - Latest News 01-29-2015 - Update on Karen Klein Whelan from daughter Lynette Mom wants to share her incredible news :) Today's visit with Dr Liao was amazing! The purpose of the appointment was to read Mom's CAT scan and see if there was any change to her cancer since the last scan. Dr Liao told us that there was no change. There was still evidence of a mass in Mom's upper right lung, but Dr Liao thinks this is scar tissue. It has been 13 months since Mom was admitted to Good Sam with the terrible reaction to her prescribed chemo treatment. We almost lost her then. Dr Liao told us that with 12+ months of unchanged tissue, Mom is in remission! Even Dr Liao could hardly believe that Mom has made it this far. Dr Liao will be using Mom's case to start documentation on some clinical trials with Taxol and Avastin to cure this type of lung cancer. He has received funding from a drug company to begin clinical trials so more patients can be prescribed the chemo that Mom has. This is very exciting! As you can imagine, Mom shed some tears of joy ( I kept mine in until I got to my car). Haha. I know she can hardly believe that this has happened to her. She made it! She is a survivor!
