Salem High School Class of 1959 - Latest News

02-08-2017 - Karen Klein Whelan
Good afternoon faithful family and friends,

Thank you for your years of faith-filled prayers and support of Skip and Karen Whelan!

It is with a joy-filled, yet heavy heart that we share with you that Karen Whelan has gone home to her Savior on Sunday, January 15, 2017. She ended her life here on earth in the presence of family. She no longer suffers from her 7-year battle with lung cancer.

The Whelan family has set aside February 19 at 3:00 in the afternoon to gather and celebrate the life of Karen. The service will be held at Bethany Baptist Church at 713 S Hill Park Dr, Puyallup, WA 98373. Skip and the extended Whelan family would love to have you join them in remembering his wife, their mom, and their Grandma/Granny, Karen.

Mom and Dad were deeply impacted by the following two organizations during Mom’s bout with cancer. If you desire to remember Karen with a gift, please consider sharing with one of the two following organizations that ministered to Karen during her fight: Partner Oncology Foundation, which assisted Mom and Dad with payment for much of the chemo drug costs, or MultiCare: Hospice, who stepped in and beautifully supported and cared for mom, making her comfortable, during the last two weeks of her life. Please include “in memory of Karen Whelan” in the memo line, if you would.

Partner Oncology Foundation
1519 3rd Street SE Suite 260
Puyallup, WA 98372

MultiCare: Hospice
P.O. Box 5200
MS: 3901-1-HH (this indicates the Hospice program)
Tacoma, WA 98415

There are local hotels in the area available, but they will not allow us to block out rooms, dues to a local event at the Washington State Fairgrounds in Puyallup. They suggest making reservations soon as space is filling up.

Thank you again for partnering in prayer for Skip and Karen Whelan. Mom is whole again and praising God in heaven, but she has left a gap in life down here on earth. Please keep Dad in your prayers, that God would give him strength to continue living life as God leads him.

Sincerely,
Shauna Essman

On behalf of the entire Whelan family
